Go beyond the basics with this one day, hands-on intensive designed for artists who want to create stronger, more successful community mural projects. Whether you're looking to streamline your project management, gain practical insights from experienced muralists, or learn the polytab mural process, you'll leave with practical tools, strategies, and real-world knowledge you can immediately apply to your own mural practice.
The day is divided into two parts.
Part 1 is a guided tour of Common Wealth Murals projects, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how each mural came together, from community engagement and design through budgeting, contracts, production, installation, and the challenges and lessons learned along the way.
In Part 2, you'll participate in a live demonstration of the polytab mural installation process, including cutting, priming, projecting and installing polytab to gain hands-on experience and practical techniques you can use in your own work.
The Muralist Toolkit Live is taught by Greta McLain of GoodSpace Murals and Britt Ruhe of Common Wealth Murals. Together, they bring the experience of more than 150 completed mural projects and decades of leadership in community-engaged public art.
WHEN: Saturday, September 19, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
WHERE: Common Wealth Murals Studio. 4 Birnie Ave, Springfield, MA 01107.
Thanks to generous support from the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA), scholarships are available for New England artists, reducing the registration fee to $40. Scholarships will be awarded on a rolling basis until August 31st.
